One Word. Your Word. - January 8

OVERVIEW

Oftentimes, the life we have is different from the life we want. We begin to flirt with the idea of change, but when it comes down to it, change is difficult. We resist it and the progress it leads to because we don’t like the discomfort of the process. The truth is that we all have the capacity to change.

This new year, instead of asking ourselves what we want to do differently, let us ask ourselves, “What does God want for me?” In Galatians 5, Paul tells us a few different things God wants for us.  “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want... But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” As Jesus followers, this same Spirit is in each one of us. Our best life is not behind us or ahead of us. Our best life is inside of us.
