Contagious Generosity - May 7

OVERVIEW

Generosity is not about giving. It's about living. Jesus taught us to not store up treasures for ourselves on earth but rather to store up treasures in heaven. For where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. There are many ways for us to be generous — through our time, our talents, and our treasure. But generosity is not based on an amount we give; you don't have to be rich to be generous. Generosity is an attitude.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Have you ever experienced contagious generosity? Tell about that time.

2. Often in our society, we are taught to think "mine" — my time, my talent, my money. Have you ever thought this way or been guilty of acting this way? How? How does this contradict what Jesus taught?

3. Often the voices we hear come from a source that's not healthy, like the voice of comparison. What comparison traps do we fall into that keep us from being generous?

4. How is generosity an attitude and not an amount?

5. Generosity can be expressed with your treasure, time, and talent. In what ways can you be generous with your resources, gifts, and talents?

MEMORIZATION

Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV) Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

APPLICATION
