Every Miracle Has a Name
Scripture:
“They even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.” – Acts 5:15–16 (ESV)
Think:
Jerusalem was buzzing with stories.
The sick were being healed.
Demons were fleeing.
Broken people were finding freedom. Crowds filled the streets carrying desperate loved ones, hoping that somehow—even Peter’s shadow might touch them.
But Acts is careful to show us something important: the miracle was never Peter.
Every healing pointed beyond the disciples to Jesus.
That is the heartbeat of every miracle in Scripture. Miracles are not spiritual entertainment. They are signs. Arrows. Windows pulling back the curtain so people can see the glory, authority, compassion, and power of Christ.
Miracles are moments where the Kingdom of God breaks into a broken world and reminds us that Jesus is making all things new. That is exactly what is happening here. Heaven is invading earth through the name of Jesus.
And maybe the most stunning part of this story is who God chooses to use.
Peter—the impulsive disciple.
The one who denied Jesus.
The one who once collapsed under fear and shame.
Now his life carries evidence that Jesus is alive.
God intentionally uses flawed people so no one mistakes the source of the power. The miracle is not that Peter became impressive. The miracle is that Jesus transforms ordinary surrendered people into living testimonies of His grace.
That means Acts 5 is not ultimately about shadows.
It is about resurrection power.
The same Jesus who opened blind eyes in the Gospels is still healing through His Church in Acts. The same Jesus who touched lepers, restored outcasts, and raised the broken is still moving after the resurrection.
Because Jesus did not stop working when He ascended.
His ministry multiplied through Spirit-filled believers.
And that truth still matters now.
Every answered prayer points to Jesus.
Every changed life points to Jesus.
Every chain broken, every heart restored, every addiction overcome, every soul rescued points to Jesus.
Not to personalities.
Not to platforms.
Not to churches.
To Jesus alone.
Application:
Take a moment today to remember where Jesus has shown up in your life. Every breakthrough, every moment of grace, every ounce of healing is evidence that He is still alive and still working.
Prayer:
Jesus, keep my eyes fixed on You. Never let me worship the vessel instead of the Savior. Let my life point people toward Your goodness, Your power, and Your grace. May everything You do in and through me bring glory to Your name alone. Amen.
