The Gospel Came All the Way to Them

Scripture:

“Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: ‘We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. For this is what the Lord has commanded us:

“I have made you a light for the Gentiles,
that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.”

When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.”

Think:

Try to imagine hearing these words as a Gentile that day.

You had always been the outsider. You could stand near the synagogue and listen, but Israel’s story was not your story. The promises belonged to someone else. You could admire their God from a distance, but you had no reason to believe He had made room for you.

Then Paul read the words of Isaiah: “I have made you a light for the Gentiles.”

Gentiles. That meant you.

God had spoken about people like you centuries before you were born. You had not been overlooked. You were not an interruption to His plan or a second choice after someone else said no. Before you ever knew to search for Him, God had already determined that His salvation would come searching for you.

No wonder they rejoiced. This was more than the announcement that forgiveness was available. It was the moment outsiders discovered they had been wanted all along. The God they had watched from a distance had come near. The door they assumed would remain closed had been opened by Jesus.

This is our story too.

We were the ones far away. We had no claim on God, no goodness that could earn His attention, and no way to cross the distance our sin had created. So Jesus crossed it for us. He left heaven, entered our brokenness, and carried our sin to the cross. He was rejected so we could be received. He was pushed outside the city so that those of us on the outside could be brought home.

The gospel came all the way to us.

Someone carried it. Someone prayed, invited, taught, gave, or refused to stop speaking the name of Jesus—and His light reached the darkness where we were standing.

Now someone else is standing where we once stood, wondering if God sees them, wants them, or could ever forgive them. They may be closer than you think. And God may use your voice to tell them the news that changed everything for you:

Jesus came for you too.

Application:

Think of one person who may feel forgotten, unwanted, or too far from God. Ask Jesus to give you the courage and compassion to carry His light toward them.

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for crossing every distance to bring me home. Let Your love move through me until someone else knows they have not been forgotten and that Your salvation has come for them too. Amen.
